As part of the WW1 Centenary commemoration a ceramic poppy memorial to those who died (funded by Smarden History Society) is now on display in Smarden Church. It is sited near the pulpit and looks very impressive. We are grateful to those who with ingenuity and skill have made this display possible.

The next Group Service will be taking place in Smarden on Sunday 30 September at 10am celebrating Smarden’s Patronal festival. We are delighted to be able to welcome Canon Kerry Thorpe as our preacher. Kerry is a gifted preacher and communicator who used to work in the Diocese, but now Kerry works nationally. He seeks to encourage those involved with mission to focus on the quality of relationships.

Harvest will be celebrated Sunday 7 October. In the morning there will be Harvest themed services at the usual times: ie 9:15am Biddenden Parish Eucharist and 11am Smarden Mattins. In the afternoon there is a simple All Age outdoor Harvest service (3pm) at Karoben Farm, Bell Lane, followed by a tea, and a Barn Dance starting at 5pm. You will be welcome to come just for the service, or the Barn Dance. Music will be led by a local folk band.

Biddenden Flower Festival review meeting will be on Thursday 11 Oct at 10am at All Saints church. Review of last year’s flower festival. Also planning and ideas for the 2019 event and choose a “theme”. Looking forward to seeing you all at the meeting. Thanks Jeanette Oatway.

The licensing of Rev’d Catherine Wilson as Vicar of the parishes of Bromham, Oakley and Stagsden near Bedford will take place on Monday 22 October at St. Mary’s Oakley. Unfortunately space is going to be very limited, so the number of people Catherine can invite is going to be limited to just 20 from our parishes. If you are interested in coming to support Catherine please speak to Alex or one of the Churchwardens.

There will be a ‘Welcomers’ meeting in All Saints to which everyone is invited on Thursday 1 November at 10:30 am. Further details in the Magazine.

Following the replacement of the Lectionary reading Bible last year, we are considering the replacement of the Pew Bibles. Some of these Bibles are wearing, further the version is different to that which we read from. If you would be interested in sponsoring the purchase of a set of these Bibles please speak to Alex or one of the churchwardens.
