Holy Week and Easter

Palm Sunday marks the start of Holy Week, the most important week of the Church’s year, when we remember the last days of Jesus’ life. The events are both swift and dramatic. Each of the services help us to follow the moving story that is the basis of Christian faith: the Crucifixion and Resurrection. The services during this week are not designed just for the committed, but for all who are searching for meaning and faith.

Maundy Thursday 18th April 2019

6pm Smarden – Eucharist of the last Supper. A formal sung Eucharist that remembers how Jesus gathered his disciples to celebrate the Passover. This became the last meal he shared with his disciples. It is the meal upon which the Eucharist is derived, and the meal where Jesus washed his disciples’ feet.

Good Friday 19th April 2019

10:30am Smarden – Active Church

11:00am Smarden – Walk with the cross. We start with Active Church activities. Other members of the congregation join at or before 11am. At 11am there will be a walk with the cross accompanied by readings reflecting of the events leading to the crucifixion. Walk will be 30 – 40minutes. All ages welcomed. We finish back in church for tea and coffee hot cross buns.

2pm Biddenden – Last hour by the Cross. A service of readings, hymns, and reflection that contemplate the place of the crucifixion in our faith.
